The Path › Step 2
Finish the draft — together.
The hardest part isn’t starting. It’s showing up week after week until it’s done. Most writers never finish their first draft. You don’t have to be one of them.

When will you finish?
Forty-five minutes a day — about a thousand words — gets you a 40,000-word draft in a little over a month. Move the sliders and see your date.

Questions authors ask at this step
I’ve been stuck for months. Is it too late?
No. Most of the writers in our co-writing sessions came in stuck. The fix is rarely a new technique — it’s a regular time, a word count, and people who notice when you don’t show up.
Should I edit as I go?
Not yet. Writing is creating something out of nothing; editing gives you something to work with. Get the draft done first, then make it good at step 3.
Can you just finish it for me?
Sometimes, yes. If it’s nonfiction, the draft is partly done, and you’d rather we write the rest with you, that’s a writing partnership. Talk with us and we’ll tell you honestly what makes sense.
